Intangible Gift
Society tends to celebrate people after they’ve reached a level of fame and notoriety on Zuckerburg’s innenat, irrespective of whether their bank accounts (or their souls) reflect the status bestowed upon them. What I love about our generation, and I guess I have to credit the internet for providing the platform, is our willingness to unashamedly share parts of ourselves, we are still learning to love in an attempt to build community, find encouragement, and for reasons I am now realizing, just be our true authentic selves.
As a Legacy & Estate Planning Attorney, I’m extremely mindful of how our lives are intricately intertwined within our families, amongst our communities, and the world at large. The cornerstone of my practice is empowering others to live a life of intentionality in order to leave a meaningful legacy. And, as I see a new conscious society unfolding, one including members of MY community releasing the things that hinder them from walking in their true selves, realizing their wounds and addressing them one by one, understanding that healing is no longer optional as we raise up yet another generation while attempting to assist the one before us, I am hopeful.
Maybe we’re going to be ok after all? Maybe freedom is no longer an unattainable dream?
We know freedom is not free, nor does it come easy. It’s a daily struggle of fight and surrender. It costs us relationships, rendering us lonely at times, it costs us our expectations leaving us overwhelmed as we accept reality while hoping for an uncertain future. It costs us control, when we realize it’s only Grace that brought us here and Grace that will see us through, and it's all friggin' scary.
But for the first time in my life, I am willing to pay the price, the price so many of our ancestors did without any guarantees but one thing for certain: Freedom or Death.
I thought building a practice writing other people’s stories, pushing them towards purpose (freedom), and legally protecting their legacies, was the notable thing to do. But, in doing so I not only got lost in the process of running a business, I was ignoring my legacy, my story. While I’m certain the two aren't mutually exclusive, I’d be doing us (myself included) a huge disservice if I didn't share the in between, and there is where the true wealth lies.
